Commercial Street is pleased to present an exhibition in London, at a. SQUIRE.

Clip 13_Gun, 2019, is Angeletti’s edit from the original footage I took at a gun range to collect audio for Rocking Chair, a video made by Marie Angeletti in 2018. Marie gave me a list of instructions and a shot list, to produce a Western film for her, which involved casting and shooting cowboys, horses, the desert landscape, gun ranges, etc. She edited the footage into Rocking Chair. This was shown in LA alongside works by Bedros Yeretzian, “Notice of Filming” leaflets found around the city, with readymade scene descriptions. These are common around LA, with often dramatic but simple descriptions, and a list of planned shots and disruptions to the immediate surroundings for the purpose of film production. A second edit, Rocking Chair 2 was shown on the existing screens of a sport bar, The Capri Lounge, Los Angeles, in late 2019 and folded in new scenes that Marie filmed herself, including footage of Bedros Yeretzian and Nicole-Antonia Spagnola, and of the cast of the original cowboy scenes, Dean and Ginny. It was shown around the bar across seven synchronized screens over the course of one night. Clip 13_Gun, 2019, is the first time the video will be shown on its own.

Marriage Story, a work comprised of a rotating gobo projection of a promotional still from the film, Marriage Story (2019), was first shown in Bedros’s exhibition at P.E.O.P.L.E., a collaborative space run by Emma Sims and Connor Camburn, which opened in LA shortly after Commercial Street left its most recent space, the cast of characters reforming themselves. Emma’s drawings of groups of figures from found images in mass culture manipulate and control the subjects to sinister effect, possessing the image.

Reiterations and reformations begin to generate themselves, their own connections, and meanings. Affect accumulates from the unfolding collaborations, their subjects, participants, and the conditions of the work’s production and presentation.
